Video games are a pretty divisive subject. On one side of the debate, you’ve got the hardcore gamers, the guys and gals who live a pixelated life and are damn proud of it. On the other, the fresh air crowd that decry the corrupting violence and the damage done to couch cushions subjected to endless hours of supporting doughy butt cheeks.

At Mr. Smith, we don’t really care about any of that. If you like video games, cool. If you don’t, also cool. To us, video games (particularly their inception and design) are just another avenue for creativity to blossom. Honestly, a well-crafted video game is as much a work of art as any other visually captivating project that stimulates the minds and imaginations of people everywhere. Designers and developers spend years pouring their hearts into these games, and that kind of passion and effort should never be discounted.

Need some proof? Check out this oral history detailing the creation of Street Fighter II, a seminal arcade-style fighting game that helped usher in the post-Pong era of video game innovation. It’s a brilliant read and we’re confident that you won’t regret a single second of the 15 minutes it takes you to read it.
